What is an assessment?
A – An assessment is a way of looking at all of the things that you able to manage for yourself and also all things which you may be having difficulty with e.g. getting dressed. A trained member of staff from Community Based Services will arrange to visit you at your home, sometimes on several occasions to gather all the information necessary to help us understand how best to help you. Sometimes assessments can be carried out in other places such as hospitals or residential care homes.
What is Self Directed Support
Self Directed Support is a way to organising and paying for the support you need. The money normally spent by social services can go straight to you.
The council will work out the amount of money required to meet your needs. This is called a personal budget. The money can be spent by social services on your behalf or can go straight to you in the form of a direct payment.
This gives you more choice about how you want to receive support and who you want to help you
