The way Gateshead Council provides adult social care is changing and this means the way we work with you will change too. It’s all about putting you first and giving you more choice and control through "self directed support".
Changes you may see over the next few months include:
-
When you make a referral for an assessment you will be sent a personal assessment to complete. This will give you more opportunities to tell us what is important to help you remain independent in your own home and ensure that your voice is heard.
-
If you are eligible for support after your assessment we will tell you your indicative amount of money. This is a guide to the amount of money that is needed to meet your eligible social care needs.
-
There is an opportunity to consider choosing to use some or your entire personal budget as a direct payment. This means that after signing an agreement with us you can choose to manage the budget yourself in a bank account which you set up for the purpose.
We all know change can be worrying so if you have any questions about this you can discuss this with Adult Social Care Direct on 0191 433 7033 or ask for more information from your social care assessment worker or social worker.
