Short Break Service FAQ's

What are short breaks

Short break means:

  • Someone enjoying an experience away from their carer.
  • Carers and families having valuable breaks from their caring responsibilities.

A short break could take place from; the persons home, a commissioned building base service within a community setting, or an organised holiday of the persons choice with trained paid carers.

How do I arrange a short break?

If you think you or someone you care for needs a break you should contact your social worker or duty social worker for an assessment of need.

If you are eligible for a short break this will then become part of your care plan and be reviewed if your circumstances change

Will I pay

Everyone has to make a contribution towards the cost of their short break. How much will depend on individual circumstances.

How long can I take a break for?

Short breaks are taken in nights and can be anything from one night upwards. The allocation of breaks you are entitled to will be agreed as part of your care plan, based on your circumstances.

How often can I have a break?

This will be determined by your assessment. You will be allocated a set amount of nights that will meet your needs
