Gateshead Councils Shared Lives Service (formally known as Adult Placement Scheme) is all about Approved Shared Lives Carers supporting people with learning disabilities to live their lives within their communities. The Shared Lives Carers and the people whom they support share their lives and do things together as part of ordinary family lives. The needs of the people requesting to access the Shared Lives service will mean that they require support with different areas of their lives to enable people live as independently as they possible can.
Shared Lives Carers offer a number of different services including short term accommodation often known as ‘respite’, long term accommodation and support in the community.
