Sheltered Accommodation

The aim of sheltered housing is to provide comfortable, convenient and secure accommodation whilst giving full independence with the support of a resident warden and 24hour emergency alarm system.

The properties are linked to Gateshead Care Call|. This allows residents to live independently with the support of a 24hour emergency alarm system, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Moving into sheltered housing - within seven days of moving in, a Gateshead care assistant will visit and explain the basics of living in sheltered accommodation.  The following standards can be expected to be met when linked to this service. Gateshead Care Call| assistants will:

  • On average 80% of all calls to the control centre will be answered in less than 30 seconds;
  • Where requests for assistance are received/required, Gateshead care call assistants will on average, take no longer than 20 minutes to attend;
  • Operators will be in full contact with you until help is to hand.
