Link Up to Community Care Grants

A Community Care Grant is money from the Government to help people on Pension Credit to pay for important things.  The money does not have to be paid back.  A Community Care Grant may be paid if you need help to:

  • Get back on your feet after being in hospital or receiving care away from home;
  • Stay in their own home and be independent;
  • Cope with difficult family problems, such as health problems;
  • Visit someone who is ill or go to a relative's funeral.

This could mean help with travel costs, or help to buy or replace a key home item such as a cooker, washing machine, bed or carpet.  If you hve savings of more than £1000 you may not be able to get a Community Care Grant.

You can get help and advice by visiting Age Concern Gateshead on the High Street or calling them on 0191 477 3559. Or the Pension Service can visit you in your own home.  You can call them on 0191 201 1636.  You can get an application form from the Jobcentre or log onto www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk|
