What we look for

Two girls kissing the cheek of a foster carerFoster carers come from all walks of life and as long as you feel you can offer a child or young person a safe and secure environment we would be interested in hearing from you. In exchange, we can offer you the opportunity to work as part of a professional team and gain valuable experience within child care.

If you are considering being a foster carer, it is important that you:

  • Enjoy interacting with children and young people
  • Are patient and tolerant
  • Can provide a safe and secure home with enough space (preferably a spare bedroom or room to share with an existing child)
  • Have a bit of extra time
  • Are willing to develop new skills by attending training courses
  • Are able to communicate effectively and work positively with a child’s family and social workers
