Referral and Assessment Teams

Family Centres
Access and Assessment Teams

The social workers in these teams carry out brief and more in-depth assessment of children who have been referred for services. All children referred are viewed as in need, whether they are in need of protection, accommodation or support services.

The team are at the forefront of:

  • Solution-Focused Therapy. This is a treatment model which has proven to be as effective as traditional models but is often much shorter. Solution-Focused Therapy respects the unique strengths and resources of every individual, couple, and family;
  • Signs of Safety approach to child protection. This approach focuses on the question, "how can the worker actually build partnerships with parents in situations of suspected or substantiated child abuse?"

Finding Solutions

This weekly clinics offered by the team based at the Civic Centre. It is:

  • a preventative service for children in need and their families;
  • focuses on identifying solutions and strengths with families setting goals and working towards them.

The service is only available for families who have identified their own need for support.
