Services provided at the Centres

Gateshead's Family Centres were designed with families in mind. Our experienced staff will work closely with families to ensure the services on offer are flexible. Some of the services available include:

  • Groups for parents/carers;
  • Parenting courses, both on an individual basis and in groups;
  • Day care for children as part of a package of care;
  • Support in the family home;
  • Play sessions for families;
  • Drop in sessions;
  • Toy libraries.

Who the Centres are for

  • The Centres are a community resource open to all parents and carers for advice, help and support;
  • However, services are mainly aimed at those families who have particular needs and who are referred by their Health Visitor or Social Worker.

This does not mean that other families cannot use the Centre or take part in its activities - but places are limited and parents and carers should check with the Centre if they are able to attend.

Applying for a place

To apply for a place at the Centre you need to fill in a referral form - the staff at any of the Centres can help or you can ask your Health Visitor or Social Worker for help.
