The Innovative Starter For Ten scheme, developed by Gateshead Council and design guru Wayne Hemingway MBE, was set up to address a demand for creative workspace in Gateshead and to revitalise the High Street. It’s seen the transformation of The Bed Shed, a redundant furniture store on Gateshead's High Street, into a thriving creative cluster for small businesses called 'The Shed'.
The Shed
Eleven of the region's freshest creative business stars have been given rent-free workspace inside the shed to act as a catalyst for growth in the local creative sector. They include graphic designers, artists, theatre practitioners and a film production company. The Shed officially opened its doors on the 23 November 2009.
Phase Two
The application process for Phase Two of Starter for Ten has now closed. We will update with details of the new businesses that will be taking up residency on the second floor of The Shed as soon as it's available. Watch this space!
