Academic support

  • Businesses in the North East can rely on strong academic support from five universities and 24 colleges: 
    • University of Teeside's School of Computing is ranked as the best UK new university for teaching computer animation and games;
    • University of Sunderland has the UK's largest ICT training facility and supplies more graduates to Microsoft UK than any other UK university;
  • Centres of Excellence have also been established around key parts of the local economy;
  • The N-STAR initiative can also help with intellectual property issues, technology transfers, joint ventures and collaborations.
