The 1998 Gateshead Garden Festival sowed the seeds of inspiration for a group of local people who set up a catering project in Teams which has grown and grown ever since.
The Beezz Neezz catering enterprise was initially formed to cater for the builders, landscapers and gardeners working on the site, but it proved so successful that a contract covering all the Garden Festival staff was soon awarded.
The group used the experience of many local professionals, including doctors, teachers and ministers to get things started and continue with the project once the festival was over. The group then started a buffet service from Teams Community Centre providing a service for local events and parties.
Employing only local residents Beezz Neezz has gone from strength to strength, drawing on the experience of our Economic Development Service to identify further opportunities in the area.
The project now includes a busy restaurant in Housing 21, a sheltered housing facility in Bensham.
