Fresh fruit and vegetables are regularly on the menu for residents across the borough now that six community enterprises have pooled their resources to give more thought to encouraging healthy eating in Gateshead.

Funding from the European Regional Development Fund has helped the group to create jobs and provide training in food preparation, hygiene and health and safety, as well as give a valuable service to the local community, delivering affordable fresh food to schools, lunch clubs and sheltered housing every week.
As a result, many people around Gateshead are finding it easier to eat healthily, with fresh fruit and vegetables on sale close by and advice on dieting, vitamins, food labels, food allergies and kitchen safety online.
