You may want to start up a social enterprise as a charity, but to do so you will need to meet certain criteria set out by the Charity Commission. Your enterprise must be set up exclusively for charitable reasons and comply with various legal requirements.
A charity has separate rules from other types of business and must be led by a body of trustees with unique duties and responsibilities. To become a registered charity your enterprise must be set up for one of the following reasons:
-
The relief of poverty;
-
The advancement of religion;
-
The advancement of education;
-
The promotion of regeneration and community benefits.
