Appealing against Rateable Value

If the circumstances of the property have changed the valuation officer may alter the value.

Ratepayers (and certain others who have an interest in the property) can also appeal against the value shown in the list if they believe that it is wrong.

Further information about making appeals can be found on:

  1. the Valuation Office website below;
  2. alternatively, the Newcastle Group Valuation Office deal with the Gateshead area - their contact details are at the bottom of this page.

Rating Advisers

Ratepayers do not have to be represented in discussions about their rateable value or their rates bill. Appeals against rateable values can be made free of charge.

If you consider that you need to seek professional advice you are strongly urged to contact a reputable firm of estate agents or chartered surveyors with the relevant knowledge and expertise as well as the appropriate indemnity insurance.

Members of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Institute of Revenues, Rating & Valuation ( IRRV ) are qualified and regulated by the rules of professional conduct designed to protect the public from misconduct.
