On 13 February 2007, Gateshead Council agreed to implement a scheme to control street trading within the borough.
The Council resolved to designate certain streets as 'Consent Streets' in which street trading Consent holders may trade in accordance with the provisions of their Consent.
A draft policy which will be applied to street trading activities has been produced together with a proposed Schedule of Fees. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that each application and street trading Consent is dealt with in a consistent, fair and proportionate way.
The Council consulted with a wide range of organisations and individuals including Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, the Highways Authority, existing traders, and representatives of local businesses and residents before approving it on 24 July 2008.
Gateshead Gateshead is now giving notice that it intends to pass the following resolution pursuant to the provisions of section 2(a) and section 2(c) of Schedule 4 to the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982:
"In pursuance of the power conferred upon the Borough Council of Gateshead by section 2(a) and section 2(c) of Schedule 4 to the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 the Council hereby resolves that the streets listed in Schedule 1 of this resolution be duly designated as "prohibited streets" and that all other streets in the Borough of Gateshead not listed in Schedule 1 be duly designated as "consent streets" as defined in the Act and with effect from the 20 October 2008
