Ear-piercing, Tattooing, Acupuncture and Electrolysis Information

Gateshead Council is in the process of introducing a single set of Byelaws in respect of Acupuncture, Tattooing, Semi-Permanent Colouring, Cosmetic Piercing and Electrolysis. Public consultation is an important part of this process and a Public Notice has been published in the local press. A copy of the Notice is below.

The Byelaws will cover

  • The registration of practitioners
  • The registration of premises
  • Standards relating to hygiene and cleanliness of the practitioner, premises and equipment used.

The Byelaws to be introduced will be the new model byelaws developed by the Department of Health that encompass all regulated skin piercing activities. These will also update specific provisions to reflect current infection control advice and industry practice and give a clearer approach for enforcement, businesses and the public.
