From 6.00am on 1st July every enclosed or substantially enclosed workplace or public had to be smoke free.

The law applies to fixed workplaces and also to work vehicles.

Every one of Gateshead’s businesses is covered by the requirement.

Minimum age to purchase tobacco products rises from 16 to 18 years old on 1st October 2007

From 1st October 2007 it's going to become illegal to sell tobacco products to people under the age of 18 (an increase from 16) in England and Wales. The change will include cigarettes, cigars, tobacco for roll your own and pipes as well as rolling papers. The law applies to shops and also to businesses who have cigarette vending machines on their premises.
