Fairtrade Fortnight is the annual campaign organised by the Fairtrade foundation to encourage UK shoppers to add Fairtrade marked products to their shopping lists

Activities

Fairtrade Fortnight 2008 (Mon 25 February – Sunday 9 March)

Tuesday 26 February 2008
St Alban's RC Primary School, Pelaw
Presentation of Fairtrade School certificate by the Mayor Councillor David Lynn

Tuesday 4 March 2008
Report to the Gateshead Strategic partnership requesting the partners to adopt a Fairtrade policy.

Wednesday 5 March 2008
St Thomas More Comprehensive School, Blaydon
Presentation for Fairtrade schools by Jose Peralta, banana producer from Dominican Republic.

Throughout Fairtrade Fortnight

  • Distribution of promotional coasters to several pubs in Gateshead Council
  • Distribution of Fairtrade Directories
  • Presentations to Gateshead Council staff in the Civic Centre
  • Fairtrade display in the Civic Centre
  • Presentations to other groups during the Fortnight

World Fairtrade day
Invitation to George Alagiah, President of the Fairtrade Foundation to visit Cardinal Hume School, Wrekenton to promote the schools commitment to become a Fairtrade school.

Junior Games
The fairtrade Steering group through Gateshead Council will be sponsoring the Junior Games in 2008 this will involve providing a goodie bag of Fairtrade goods for all runners in the Games in May/June and August
