In 2012, the Fairtrade Foundation are asking everyone to ‘take a step’ for Fairtrade and to register it on their website http://step.fairtrade.org.uk/|. Your step can be as simple as trying a new Fairtrade product, or as big and bold as launching a campaign. Every single one counts, because together they lead to life-changing projects in developing countries. A few steps you can take include:
-
Inviting a friend out for a Fairtrade coffee
-
Organising a Fairtrade cake sale
-
Telling your friends on Facebook about your favourite Fairtrade product
-
Buying Fairtrade tea bags when it’s your turn at work
-
Asking your local shop to stock more Fairtrade choices
Gateshead Council supports Fairtrade and a variety of Fairtrade products are available from council catering facilities including tea, coffee, fruit juice, confectionary and wine. Gateshead became a Fairtrade Borough in 2007 by satisfying five goals set by the Fairtrade Foundation. You can help Gateshead to remain a Fairtrade Borough by supporting Fairtrade and asking local shops, cafes and workplaces to supply Fairtrade goods.
Choosing Fairtrade offers farmers and workers in developing countries a better chance to work their way out of poverty through fairer wages, safer working conditions and a Fairtrade premium, to invest in projects to improve life for their whole community.
