Transport Debate

The way we move people and goods affects everyone. Many of the things which matter to Gateshead Council, from major international issues such as climate change to the health and quality of life of individual people, are affected by how the transport system operates and how it is used.

The Council is aware that the borough’s transport system faces a number of challenges. Road traffic and congestion have been increasing while the use and availability of public transport have fallen. If these trends continue problems associated with them will increase at a time when the availability of public funding for measures to tackle them is likely to be limited.

In order to help guide its approach on dealing with these issues the Council has been undertaking a ‘transport debate’ seeking the views of individuals and organisations on how the transport system should develop in the future, and where its priorities should lie.

To give your views on the future of the transport system in Gateshead you can email them to: transportplanning@gateshead.gov.uk| or write to:

Gateshead Transport Debate, Transport and Highways, Gateshead Council, Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH.

For more information phone: Andrew Haysey on 0191 433 3124.

The deadline for your comments is the end of May 2010.
