Building Regulations

Gateshead Council's Regulatory Services is one of the best performing in the Country, and Building Control is part of this success. Not only do we achieve a 98% first time approval rate, for Building Regulations applications, but we also provide an excellent inspection service through our local team of highly experienced Building Surveyors.

Building Control from Gateshead Council is responsive, reliable and ready to help you through the process of ensuring your building work complies with the Building Regulations. We are committed to a quality service, and have delivered our services under a Quality Management System (to ISO EN BS 9001) since 1993.

The Council's statutory control of building work exists to protect the health and safety of users and occupants of buildings.

The Building regulations control a wide range of building activities and the Council has a duty to enforce the Building Regulations within the Borough of Gateshead.

How to find out if your work is subject to Control?

To read a two page guidance note on what is controlled (and what is exempt from) by the Building Regulations 2002 see the document on the right of the page.

For a quick answer (during office hours) call the duty Building Surveyor on 0191 433 3144 or 0191 433 3146.
