Hawks Road/South Shore Road Planning Brief Consultation
We have written a draft planning brief to guide the redevelopment of the South Shore Road/Hawks Road industrial site.
The site has been identified for a number of uses, and the planning brief will ensure the creation of a high quality development. The South Shore Road site is currently used as temporary car parking, and the Hawks Road site is used industrially.
The successful development of this site will play an important role in the regeneration of Gateshead Quays.
We would like your views on the Planning Brief to ensure that this development becomes a great place to live, work and visit.

Our aims:

Developments that complement the existing cultural character of Gateshead Quays, and the attractions of BALTIC and The Sage Gateshead;

Creation of a vibrant waterside community;

Provide a mix of family friendly uses for different times of the day and evening;

A proportion of affordable homes created on site;

10% of homes constructed to lifetime homes standards, which allow homes to be adapted to meet a household's changing needs, and 2% of homes constructed to wheelchair homes standards;

A high standard of construction, design and materials incorporated into the development;

Development constructed to meet sustainable development targets;

Pedestrian movement facilitated between Gateshead Quays and the Town Centre;

High quality, unique public space suitable for all ages and abilities, which could be used for performances and public events;

Innovative public art;

Car parking for residents and visitors.
