Over the last nine months, Gateshead Council and ONE North East have been working together to develop an exciting, yet deliverable strategy for developing A New Centre for Gateshead.
Whilst the centre of Gateshead has remained largely unchanged in recent years, the areas around it have been transformed with enormous success. We now want to bring the same level of ambition to the centre, securing an attractive range of shops and services; turn the roads into safe streets and make it an area in which people aspire to invest, live, work, feel part of and spend time in.
Quite simply, we want to create A New Centre for Gateshead which is Fit for a City.
To find out more about our plans you can download the background document on this page, or visit an exhibition this week.
This gives you the vision and big ideas which have been developed by our consultants, the international firm of architects, planners and designers BDP. The plans are not final – we actively welcome your feedback and involvement. This is a long term strategy and we can only deliver on it if we work closely with residents, businesses and other Gateshead organisations.
You can also visit the Launchpad mobile exhibition centre on West Street, outside Iceland, on 18th and 19th July, read about the plans and let us know your thoughts by completing the Feedback Form.
You can also give us your feedback now online by completing the following short questionnaire |– there are only three simple questions so it will only take a couple of minutes.
