The Former Auction Mart site is situated to the south and rear of Main Street, Crawcrook's neighbourhood centre. It was previously used as an auction market, originally for livestock but more recently for household goods. Parts of the site have been sold off over the years enabling the diverse range of uses that now exists including the Pentecostal Church, Crawcrook surgery and Bright Sparks Nursery. Pattinson's Auction Mart ceased trading in approximately 2002.
It is an important site in the centre of Crawcrook, the redevelopment of which will greatly assist in improving existing facilities and introduce new uses and that will make a significant contribution to the health, community, housing and retail sectors in the village.
The site is allocated for mixed-use development in Gateshead's Unitary Development Plan (UDP) as site MU15. The Council has produced an Interim Policy Advice document (IPA 19) to provide more detailed guidance and information to assist in the redevelopment of the former Auction Mart site.
The aim of IPA 19 is to ensure the comprehensive redevelopment of the former Auction Mart site, secure the provision of a new surgery, village centre car parking & housing and achieve a sustainable, high quality development accessible to all users.
This IPA should be considered in conjunction with the relevant policies, supporting text and appendices of the Council's adopted Unitary Development Plan (UDP) and any relevant Interim Policy Advice.
Former Auction Mart, Crawcrook – Interim Policy Advice 19 was adopted by the Council on the 13th December 2007. It was prepared within the context of the relevant UDP policies andin consultation with the public and therefore is accorded considerable weight as a statement of the Council's policy, and should be taken into account as a material considerationin the determination of planning applications.
