Felling town centre masterplan

2018.03.07_felling graphicIn April 2017 we were awarded grant funding by the government as part of the Estate Renewal Funding Programme. The grant will be used to help support the development of regeneration proposals for the centre. The Felling Town Centre Masterplan forms part of this.

We have appointed consultants, WYG, a multi disciplinary design consultancy, in partnership with Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), to undertake the masterplan. Since appointment the team have been surveying Felling town centre and the homes that are within:

  • St Oswald’s Court (Karbon Homes),
  • Crowhall Towers (The Gateshead Housing Company),
  • Sir Godfrey Thomson Court (The Gateshead Housing Company), alongside the Felling Community Centre and the Greyhound Public House.

This survey work is now complete. The results will help inform options for the future of the homes and Felling town centre that the team want to share at a series of upcoming engagement events.

Community drop in exhibition

Felling Community Centre, Crowhall Lane, Felling, NE10 0NF

Date and time

Monday 26 March: 1 - 8.30pm
Tuesday 27 March: 9.30am - 12.30pm

There's no need to book, this is a drop-in event where you can find out more about the options for the homes and Felling town centre.

Everyone is welcome.

Representatives from Gateshead Council, WYG consultant team, The Gateshead Housing Company and Karbon Homes will be available to explain the options and to answer any queries you may have.

We will be gathering your feedback on the day.

Alternatively, the exhibition materials and feedback forms, including return information, will be made available here at the time of the event. You will then be able to return forms via post or email and complete an online survey.

Residents and town centre stakeholders workshops

We have arranged two workshops for residents within the homes of St Oswald’s Court, Crowhall Towers and Sir Godfrey Thomson Court. We have also invited local organisations, groups and business within the town centre.

These events are by invitation only.

If you haven’t received a letter about these events and feel that you should have, get in touch via felling.masterplan@wyg.com or Glen Thompson at The Gateshead Housing Company 0191 433 5410 or 07768 048205.

Engagement to date

During early November 2017 a drop-in exhibition took place at Felling Community Centre. The event was open to all and was an opportunity to find out more about the masterplan and how it will be developed.

Comments were invited around five themes:

  • Homes and neighbourhood,
  • Town centre,
  • Neighbourhood spaces,
  • Streets,
  • Community

The feedback from the session was helpful in understanding the issues that residents and town centre users face every day.

Next steps

Following the engagement sessions WYG will recommend an option based on feedback and develop a masterplan to be considered by Gateshead Council and Karbon Homes.

A further engagement session is planned once this recommendation has been prepared.

Keep checking this page as we will be sharing updates as the project progresses.
