Some Gateshead neighbourhoods are experiencing lots of changes to improve their housing conditions.
Creating great places to live in Gateshead
They had suffered from long-term problems like low demand for properties, poor conditions and empty properties, anti-social behaviour and a lack of housing types to meet the modern needs of residents.
Using funding from central government, we decided to tackle these problems in areas that were most in need of support.
We worked with more than 4,000 local people in Bensham and Saltwell, Deckham, North Felling, Sunderland Road and Teams to create Neighbourhood Action Plans that set out how we would improve housing conditions in their communities.
The plans were approved in 2005 and we've been working together ever since to create places we can all be proud of.
These pages explain more about the Neighbourhood Action Plans and the work that is being done to create great places to live in Gateshead.
