North Felling is made up of the Nest North, Nest South, Brandling, Felling Housing and Stoneygate estates.

BoKlokstreet
Home's BoKlok development has provided low-cost living in North Felling

Many properties were built during the 1930s and some terraces were constructed before 1919. The area also has some unique new housing at BoKlok and St James' Village.

The area is separated by the Felling Bypass, one of the main transport routes connecting Gateshead to Newcastle and the rest of the region. It is well connected to public transport facilities and has two Tyne and Wear Metro stations. There is a large industrial area to the north of the Bypass.

The Gateshead International Stadium is located in the area and offers a range of sport and leisure facilities to residents and visitors.

Neighbourhood Action Plan

The North Felling Neighbourhood Action Plan identifies the main challenges facing this neighbourhood as:

  • Estates cutt off by roads, railway and industrial sites
  • Few neighbourhood facilities and poor access to the centre of the area
  • Poor quality and not enough open spaces
  • Poor conditions in many homes
  • Not enough choice of housing
  • Contaminated land around the former Felling Pit

We've developed a number of projects to tackle these problems and improve conditions in the wider neighbourhood over the next 10 to 15 years. These projects are:

  • New build houses to offer larger family homes
  • Neighbourhood management
  • Better regulation of private sector landlords and tenants
  • Selective demolition of a small number of properties
  • New and improved open space
