Local Development Framework
The way planning is carried out in Gateshead is changing. As part of the new planning introduced by central government in 2004 we have started to produce our first Local Development Framework ( LDF ).
The plan will cover major issues that face Gateshead in the future such as:
-
Living and working in Gateshead
-
Getting about in Gateshead
-
Shopping and services in Gateshead
-
Attracting people to Gateshead
-
Protecting Gateshead's future
This new approach to planning will result in more effective engagement with local people and businesses; a greater potential to plan more positively and focus delivery on our big priorities and land use aspirations as outlined in our Vision 2030| plan.
LDF documents
The LDF is a suite of planning documents which will collectively deliver our spatial planning strategy. This plan will replace the currently adopted Unitary Development Plan |(UDP |).
The plan is made up of several documents including:
-
Core Strategy (PDF) - This document sets a clear vision for planning in Gateshead. Its sets the overall levels of development whilst protecting the environment and heritage that's so important to us.
-
Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) - This sets out how we involve local people and businesses in the process
-
Interim Policy Advice (IPA)
-
Local Development Scheme - This is the production timetable outlining what documents will be produced and when.
-
Sustainability Appraisal (SA)
Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment:
Gateshead Council will review the current supply of available housing sites as part of the preparation of its Local Development Framework (LDF). The preparation of a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) will provide information about sites with the potential for new housing in the Borough. The data collected from the SHLAA will inform the LDF Core Strategy.
The Tyne and Wear Local Authorities have developed a district wide SHLAA methodology and are currently undertaking a call-out for SHLAA housing sites. More information on the methodology, as well as site assessment forms can be found at the following link:
