Students recreated The Blaydon Races during their visit to the Shipley Art Gallery
Year 6 students from Kelvin Grove Primary School in Bensham became culture vultures in July 2010 after visiting some of the neighbourhood's great venues.

Behind the scenes
Students went behind the scenes at the Shipley Art Gallery and The Little Theatre to see how the facilities operate.
They got the chance to get up close to some of the gallery's most famous exhibits, including The Blaydon Races painting which students managed to recreate themselves. Students explored the Shipley's huge range of art and crafts, and gave their views on the collections on display.
Kieran Hopkins, a student who visited the Shipley, said: "It is really big, and I really love the pictures. Some of the pictures are really old and there are lots to look at."
On the stage
A tour of The Little Theatre revealed secrets about the building's fascinating history, and some students even got the chance to take charge of the control room.
Courtney from class 6B learned lots during her visit: "I learned about how the theatre was built and that it might be haunted. The best part was going on stage to try some acting."
Students also visited Gateshead College's Skills Academy for Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics to get a taster of the jobs available in these industries.
Gateshead Council's neighbourhood officer team led the trip to encourage children to learn more about the history and culture of their neighbourhood.
