Disabled Reductions

If you are disabled or a disabled person lives with you, the person who pays the Council Tax may be able to claim a reduction in their Council Tax bill, to the next lowest band. The disabled person may be a child.

If you qualify for a reduction, the amount payable will be based on the Band below that in which your property has been placed.

For example - if your house is in Band D you will pay the rate for Band C. However, if your house is already in Band A (the lowest Band) the reduction on your bill will be based on a fraction of Band D. For more information please contact us.

To qualify one of the following must be available in your home:

  • a room other than a bathroom, kitchen or lavatory which is used predominantly by the disabled person;
  • a second bathroom or kitchen for the disabled persons use;
  • extra space inside the property to allow for the use of a wheelchair;

The feature concerned must be essential for the well being of the disabled person.

If you need more information about reductions for people with disabilities, please contact us or apply using the Council Tax Discount Application form on the right.
