Bill and Band Charges 2009/10

The level of Council Tax for your home is based on the Valuation Band the property has been placed in.

This has been set by the Government's Valuation Office Agency ( VOA ) according to its value on the open market on 1st April 1991. Your Council Tax bill will say which band your home is in. You can also look at the valuation list on the VOA website|.

Band Appeals

The Valuation Office Agency deals with the assessment of Council Tax bands. If you think that the band given to your property is incorrect you can, in some cases, appeal to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). |

Information about banding and making an appeal can be found on their website.

There is only one bill for each property. The basis of this is a 50% property element and a 25% person element for everyone in the house over the age of 18 (up to a maximum of two adults).

Your Council Tax bill will be payable in monthly instalments (usually from April to January). If you wish to:

  • extend your instalments to March;
  • change your payment frequency to weekly, fortnightly, 4 weekly or ½ yearly;

then please contact us.
