You can choose how you want to pay your Council Tax.
1. Online
You can pay your Council Tax online|.
2. Direct Debit
The most convenient method is Direct Debit straight from your bank account on either the 1st, 10th or 20th of each month. You can apply for this by:

Applying online.

Downloading the Direct Debit instruction form on the right-hand side and returning it to the Civic Centre.

Calling us to set your Direct Debit up over the phone.

Picking up a Direct Debit instruction form at the Civic Centre
In the unlikely event that anything goes wrong you are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee. If an error is made by Gateshead Council or your Bank of Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Gateshead Council will notify you at least 10 working days (or as otherwise agreed) in advance of your bank account being debited.
You can cancel your Direct Debit instruction at any time simply by writing to your Bank or Building Society. Please also send a copy of your letter to the Council.
3. Post
Send a cheque or postal order to us at the address on the right hand side. Please make it payable to Gateshead Council and write your Council Tax account number on the back of the cheque/postal order. All cheques should be crossed "Account Payee".
If a receipt is required please enclose your bill with payment.
Please do not send cash through the post.
4. Telephone Banking
You can telephone your own bank and ask them to make payment to the following Gateshead Council bank account:

5. Debit or Credit Card
Please ring our automated Council Tax Payment telephone line. When calling please make sure you have your Debit/Credit Card ready.
6. In Person
Payment can be made in person at the Cashiers Desk, Civic Centre between the hours of 8:45am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am to 4:00pm Friday.
Payment can also be made at local offices|.
7. Post Office Payment Card
Payment can be made at any Post Office using a Post Office Swipe Card. To order a Swipe Card please contact the Council Tax Office.
8. Bank Giro
When completing the Bank Giro slip, please ensure that you quote the following Gateshead Council bank details:
