To make sure payments are allocated correctly to your Council Tax account it's important that you pay the exact instalment amount due.
If you have a separate arrangement for outstanding arrears on your account, you must pay the exact amount which you have to pay in order to make sure that your payment is allocated correctly to your account.
If you've lost your original bill you can request a copy, you can also check your Council Tax bill balance.

Have your Council Tax account number and bank details ready, and know the amount you wish to pay. We accept all major debit and credit cards.
Send a cheque or postal order (do not send cash) in the post. Make the cheque payable to Gateshead Council and write your Council Tax account number on the back of the cheque/postal order.
If you need a receipt please enclose your bill with payment and a stamped addressed envelope.
At your bank
Pay at your bank or by using their telephone banking service. Payments should quote your 8 digit Council Tax account number and be made to Gateshead Council bank account:

Find your nearest payment outlet
Payment cards give you more choice about where and when you pay your Council Tax. You can use the cards at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet free of charge. The card cannot be used at banks.
It will take approx. 14 days for you to receive your payment card, please make sure that you use another payment method to pay any instalments that are due in the meantime.

Pay at the Civic Centre Cashiers, between the hours of 8:45am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am to 4:00pm Friday.
