The Children and Families Service offer a wide range of services:

  • Referral and Assessment;
  • Safeguarding and Care Planning Teams;
  • Services for Looked After Children;
  • Services for Disabled Children;  
  • Fostering;
  • Adoption;
  • Safeguarding Childrens Unit
  • Youth Offending Team

We work closely with partner agencies such as health and education and the third sector to ensure that we provide the best possible service to children and families in Gateshead.

What to do if you are worried about a child

If you have concerns about the safety or welfare of a child in Gateshead, the Referral and Assessment team| is the first point of contact for all families, children and professionals. They are a duty team who offer information, support and services and will respond to your concern.

If you need to talk to a social worker and English is not your first language please ring the duty social worker on 0191 433 2515. They can arrange for an interpreter to talk to you.
